Lakhon Mein Ek (1971)

Lakhon Mein Ek ("one in a lakh") is a 1971 Hindi drama directed by S. S. Balan of Madras's Gemini Studios, with comedian Mehmood in a rare central role as a simple, good-hearted orphan. His innocence and loyalty set him apart in a world of scheming people, led by Pran in a villainous turn, and the story blends sentiment, comedy and drama as he is drawn into a family's troubles and a love story with Radha Saluja. R. D. Burman composed the music, and the film is remembered for its songs, including the lullaby-like "Chanda O Chanda". A warm, old-fashioned showcase for Mehmood as more than a comic sidekick.
