Description

Lal-e-Yaman ("the ruby of Yemen") is a 1933 Hindi fantasy directed by J. B. H. Wadia, with Padma, Mohini and Boman Shroff in the cast. Set in a far-off Arabian kingdom, it follows a story of royal intrigue, romance and magic in the style of the Arabian Nights tales that were hugely popular in the early sound era. It was the first production of Wadia Movietone, the studio founded by brothers J. B. H. and Homi Wadia, which went on to become famous for stunt films starring Fearless Nadia. Surviving early talkies are rare, which makes it a valuable piece of Indian film history.
