License (2023)

Bharathi is a schoolteacher who has seen too many girls and women in her town harassed and abused with no help from the system. She decides to apply for a licence to carry a gun, a request that the authorities treat as absurd, and when she is turned down she takes the fight to court. The case draws attention, opposition and pressure on her family, and becomes an argument about women's safety and the right to self-defence. License marked the lead debut of Rajalakshmi Senthil, the folk singer who became popular through a television singing contest, with veteran Radha Ravi in a key role. It is a message-driven courtroom drama rather than an action film.
