Lingaa (2014)

Lingaa, a petty thief in the city, wants nothing to do with the village of Solaiyur or the grandfather he never knew. But the villagers need him to reopen an old temple, and he goes along hoping for treasure. There he learns the story of Raja Lingeswaran, a British-era civil servant and prince who gave up his fortune to build a dam that saved the region from drought, and finds that the dam is now threatened by a corrupt politician. The film moves between the 1930s and the present, with Rajinikanth playing both men. It reunited the star with K. S. Ravikumar, director of Muthu and Padayappa, and featured songs by A. R. Rahman. It was released on Rajinikanth's birthday in December 2014 and marked Sonakshi Sinha's Tamil debut.
