LOC Kargil (2003)

In 1999 intruders occupy the high ridges along the Line of Control in Kargil, and the Indian Army is sent to take them back in some of the hardest mountain fighting it has ever faced. LOC Kargil follows several units and real-life officers, among them Captain Vikram Batra and Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, as they climb sheer slopes under fire to retake posts such as Tololing and Tiger Hill, while flashbacks show the wives, fiancées and families waiting at home. Director J. P. Dutta, who had made Border, assembled one of the largest star casts in Hindi film history, and the film runs over four hours, making it one of the longest Indian films ever released. Shot in the Himalayan terrain of Ladakh, it was a costly box-office disappointment, but it remains a sincere tribute to the men who fought the war.
