Kishan, a small-town youth from Moradabad, wants nothing more than to make it as a singer. Instead he is convicted of murder and sent to Lucknow Central Jail. When a social worker proposes a music competition between prison bands, Kishan puts together a group of fellow inmates, a mixed bunch of hardened convicts and unlucky men, under the watchful eye of a suspicious jailer. Rehearsals give them hope, but they also give Kishan's band a chance at something bigger than a competition. The film was inspired by a real-life band formed by inmates in a Lucknow jail. Farhan Akhtar leads a fine ensemble that includes Deepak Dobriyal, Gippy Grewal and Ronit Roy as the jailer.
