Maa Annayya (2000)

After his parents are gone, the eldest son of a poor family works himself to the bone to raise and educate his younger brothers. He puts off his own marriage, suffers humiliation from richer relatives and keeps his pain to himself so the boys can study and settle well. But as the brothers grow up and marry, new arrivals in the family and old grudges threaten the bond he has sacrificed so much to protect. Maa Annayya ("our elder brother") is the Telugu remake of Vikraman's Tamil hit Vaanathaippola, and gave Rajasekhar one of his most emotional roles, a change from his angry-cop image. Meena plays his wife. It is an old-fashioned joint-family drama of the kind that drew big family audiences around 2000.
