Maanagaram (2017)

A young man arrives in Chennai for a job and is robbed on his first night. A local youth's temper lands him in a feud with a gang. An ageing cab driver takes a job that turns out to be part of a kidnapping, and the boy who is taken belongs to the wrong family. Over a single long night their stories cross and collide, and the city itself becomes a character. Maanagaram ("metropolis") was the debut of Lokesh Kanagaraj, who went on to make Kaithi, Master and Vikram. Its interlocking structure, with most characters left unnamed, won wide praise, and it was remade in Hindi as Mumbaikar (2023).
