Maasti Gudi is a Kannada romantic action drama set largely in the forest country of Karnataka, with Duniya Vijay as a tough hero and Kriti Kharbanda and Amulya as the women in his life. It mixes a love story with action against powerful villains. The film is sadly remembered for a tragedy during its making: in November 2016, while the climax was being shot at the Thippagondanahalli reservoir near Bengaluru, actors Anil and Uday, who played the villains, jumped from a helicopter into the water and drowned. The accident led to wide debate in the Kannada industry about safety on film sets.
