Maaveeran (2023)

Sathya draws a newspaper comic about a fearless hero, but in real life he avoids every fight. When his family is moved from their slum to a shoddy new housing block built by the cronies of minister Jeyakodi, the walls literally crack around them. After a fall, Sathya begins to hear a booming voice describing what he does, and predicting what will happen, as if he were the brave hero of his strip; worse, the voice keeps ordering him into danger. Madonne Ashwin, who won a National Award for his debut Mandela, mixes satire about cheap public housing with fantasy and comedy. Director Mysskin plays the villain, and the narrating voice belongs to Vijay Sethupathi in the Tamil original; the Telugu version, Mahaveerudu, used Ravi Teja's voice. It was one of Sivakarthikeyan's best-reviewed films.
