Maayi is the man everyone in his village turns to: generous, fearless and treated almost like a guardian deity. He has never married, and he keeps his reasons to himself. When a spirited young woman falls for him and refuses to take no for an answer, she starts to uncover the story behind his silence, while old enemies wait for a chance to strike at him. Surya Prakash's film is a classic Tamil village drama with action, sentiment and S. A. Rajkumar's songs, and it was a hit for Sarathkumar at the start of the 2000s. Vadivelu's comedy track became one of the most quoted comic scenes in Tamil cinema. The film was remade in Telugu as Simharasi.
