Aryan is a driven officer with the narcotics control unit in Chennai, determined to break the drug supply that is destroying young lives. His small team, including Sathya, starts making headway, and as the trail climbs higher it leads to Diwakar Kumaran, a polished businessman who seems to be running a vast drug network from behind a respectable face. What follows is a tense game of cat and mouse, with each side trying to anticipate the other's next move. Mafia: Chapter 1 was the third film of Karthick Naren, who had made a splash with Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, and was conceived as the first part of a series. It is stylish and moody, with Prasanna's suave villain a highlight and Jakes Bejoy's score setting the tone.
