Magadevan drives a cab in Chennai and, to support his wife and young son, does dirty work for a politician, including murder; he knows that one day the men he serves will turn on him. In a town far away, Muniraj is a quiet, spiritual young man who lives with his mother, devotes himself to learning and wants nothing to do with violence. The film moves between their two lives, with Arya playing both men, as events slowly bring the parallel stories together. Magamuni was director Santhakumar's long-awaited second film after his debut thriller Mounaguru (2011), and it was praised for its patient storytelling, its moral weight and Arya's two contrasting performances, which many critics called the best work of his career.
