Maharani Padmini (1964)

Maharani Padmini retells the Rajput legend of Padmini, queen of Chittor, whose fame brought the Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji to the walls of the fort, and of the courage of the queen and the Rajputs who defended it. Directed by Jaswant Jhaveri, a maker of historical and devotional films, it stars Jayshree Gadkar in the title role with Anita Guha and Sajjan, in the costume-drama style of 1960s Hindi cinema, with songs, court intrigue and battle scenes. The same legend was later the basis of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat (2018).
