Mahasati Tulsi (1985)

Mahasati Tulsi retells the Puranic story behind the worship of the tulsi plant. Vrinda is a woman of perfect devotion and virtue, married to the mighty demon king Jalandhar, and her chastity makes her husband invincible even against the gods. The gods are forced into a difficult choice, and Vrinda's story ends in a curse and a blessing that, in Hindu belief, explain why tulsi is sacred and why it is married to Vishnu in the ritual of Tulsi Vivah. This devotional film tells the tale in the traditional mythological style, with Arvind Trivedi among the cast.
