Mahaul Theek Hai (1999)

Jaspal Bhatti became famous in the late 1980s with Flop Show and Ulta Pulta, television satires that mocked bureaucracy, corruption and everyday hypocrisy in a deadpan Punjabi style. Mahaul Theek Hai brought that humour to the big screen, with Bhatti directing and acting in a comedy about the police, where the official line that the situation is fine sits next to absurd incompetence and petty corruption. Raj Babbar co-stars. It is a modest, low-budget film, but it carries the sharp, sarcastic voice that made Bhatti one of India's best-loved satirists.
