Mai (2013)

Mai is an ageing widow who has spent her life looking after her children. Now, with the onset of Alzheimer's disease, she needs looking after herself, and her sons and daughters are reluctant to take on the burden. Only her daughter, played by Padmini Kolhapure, is willing to care for her, at real cost to her own marriage and home. The film's great point of interest is that the title role is played by the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who made her acting debut in it at the age of about seventy-nine. Ram Kapoor plays the daughter's husband. It is a quiet family drama about memory, ageing and the duty children owe their parents.
