Kittumani has a list of eight conditions his future wife must satisfy, and he refuses every match that falls short. Fed up, a wily marriage broker, Narada Naidu, arranges a wedding to Uma by pretending that she ticks every box. Once the knot is tied, the truth comes out item by item, and the newly-weds and their families have to deal with the fallout, each lie leading to another round of comic chaos and, eventually, some home truths about marriage. Manal Kayiru (Rope of Sand) is one of writer-director Visu's best-loved comedies, with S. Ve. Shekher at his comic best and Visu himself stealing scenes as the broker. Its popularity led to a sequel, Manal Kayiru 2, in 2016.
