As children, Chanti and Anu are inseparable, until her family moves away and the two lose touch, left only with a keepsake and a promise. They grow up holding on to that memory: Chanti, now Venu, is determined to find her, while she in turn has never forgotten him. Fate brings them close again, but under different names and circumstances, and the film draws its tension from the near misses before the truth comes out. Manasantha Nuvve was one of the biggest Telugu hits of 2001 and cemented Uday Kiran's brief reign as the young romantic hero of the time. R. P. Patnaik's melodies were enormously popular, and the film was remade in several languages, including Kannada and Bengali.
