Nandini is a nurse and the only earning member of a large household. Her brothers and sisters lean on her for everything, and she puts aside love, marriage and rest to keep them going, even after a painful personal blow. As the years pass, the film follows her quiet strength and the question of whether anyone will ever look after her. K. Balachander, known for his women-centred dramas, wrote and directed it, and Suhasini gives one of her most admired performances. Ilaiyaraaja's songs, including the title song, remain popular. It was also the screen debut of comedian Vivek. This page is for the Tamil film.
