Mazhai (2005)

Arjun meets Shailaja on a rainy day, and rain keeps bringing them together as they fall in love. Their happiness draws the attention of Veerendra, a ruthless local strongman who decides Shailaja must be his, and he is backed by her own greedy father, who sees a richer match. Arjun has to fight both to keep her, in a story that builds to a violent showdown. Mazhai ("rain") is the Tamil remake of the 2004 Telugu blockbuster Varsham, which had made stars of Prabhas and Trisha; here Jayam Ravi, fresh from Jayam and M. Kumaran, takes the lead and Shriya Saran plays the heroine. Devi Sri Prasad reworked much of his hit Varsham soundtrack, and Vadivelu supplies the comedy track.
