Mei (2019)

Abhinav, who has grown up in the United States, comes to a small town in Tamil Nadu and gets to know Uma, a medical representative played by Aishwarya Rajesh. When someone close to them disappears, the pair begin asking questions and uncover a criminal network working inside the medical system, one that treats poor patients as a source of profit. Mei ("truth") is a medical crime thriller that marked the acting debut of Nicky Sundaram and gives Aishwarya Rajesh a strong, practical heroine. Its subject, the trade in human organs and the exploitation of the vulnerable, gives the investigation a social edge.
