Karthik is a traffic constable in Ooty who lives for his younger sister Viji. When a chemical spill turns the town's people into zombies, the infection spreads with terrifying speed, and Karthik finds himself leading a small band of survivors, including the doctor Renuka, through overrun streets towards a research facility in Coimbatore that may hold a cure. Miruthan (a play on mirugam, "beast") was promoted as the first zombie film in Tamil cinema, and director Shakti Soundar Rajan built it on Hollywood-style outbreak set-pieces. D. Imman's background score adds to the tension, and the film's ending set up the possibility of a sequel.
