Shravan dreams of boxing for India, but in Bareilly the sport, like much else, is controlled by Bhagwan Das Mishra, a caste-proud local strongman who expects to be served. Shravan refuses to bow, falls in love with Mishra's mute niece Sunaina, and from then on every bout, every job and every selection is rigged against him. A Dalit coach, Sanjay Kumar, becomes his ally. Anurag Kashyap's film is a sports drama that is also a fierce portrait of caste, sport politics and small-town power in Uttar Pradesh. Vineet Kumar Singh co-wrote the story and trained for years as a boxer to play the role. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
