Shabana is a quiet, guarded college student in Mumbai who trains hard in martial arts and keeps her life to herself. When a personal tragedy leaves her angry and failed by the system, a covert government unit that has been watching her offers help, at a price. She is drawn into the shadowy world of intelligence work, trained by a stern handler and sent on a mission abroad to help track down a ruthless international arms dealer. Naam Shabana is a spin-off and prequel to Neeraj Pandey's 2015 thriller Baby, expanding the story of Taapsee Pannu's character from that film; Akshay Kumar returns in an extended guest role. Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the villain, and much of the action was shot in Malaysia.
