Chakravarthy is a rich and powerful businessman, respected in public but a womaniser who preys on young women and neglects his devoted wife. His son Santhosh is everything his father is not: decent, principled and close to his mother. When Chakravarthy's behaviour finally destroys the life of a young woman, Santhosh turns against his own father, and the family is split down the middle. Netrikann, meaning 'the third eye', was produced by K. Balachander and directed by S. P. Muthuraman. Rajinikanth's double role, especially his performance as the aging, lecherous father, is one of the most celebrated of his early career, and Ilaiyaraaja's songs were popular.
