Danish, called Dan, is a hotel-management trainee at a five-star hotel in Delhi: impatient, sulky and forever in trouble with his supervisors. Shiuli, a quiet, diligent colleague, is someone he hardly notices, until she falls from the hotel's terrace during a New Year's party and is left in a coma. Learning that her last words before the fall were a question about him, Dan begins to visit the hospital every day, attaching himself to her family and her slow, uncertain recovery, to the bafflement of everyone around him. October is a quiet, meditative film about love without romance and attention as a form of care. Juhi Chaturvedi's script and Avik Mukhopadhyay's camera, full of the winter light and the shiuli flowers that give the heroine her name, make it one of Shoojit Sircar's most delicate works. It was Banita Sandhu's first feature film.
