Jayaramam, blind from birth, works as a lift operator in a Kochi apartment block and has trained his other senses to an extraordinary pitch. When a retired judge who lives in the building is murdered, Jayan is the only one who has sensed the killer, and he soon becomes the police's prime suspect. Worse, the murderer is a man with a long grudge against people connected to an old case, and his next target is a schoolgirl whom Jayan is determined to protect. Oppam ("together") reunited Mohanlal with director Priyadarshan, his most frequent collaborator, this time on a thriller rather than a comedy, and it became one of the biggest Malayalam hits of 2016. Mohanlal's performance as the blind hero and Samuthirakani's chilling killer were both widely praised.
