David, an honest worker, is betrayed by the powerful politician he trusted and a corrupt police officer: his wife is attacked and dies, and he is jailed for a murder he did not commit. When he is released after more than two decades, he sets out to take revenge on the men responsible, only to discover that the son he left behind has grown up to be a police officer, raised by one of them and sworn to stop him. Kamal Haasan plays both father and son, with notable ageing make-up for David. The story was written by K. Bhagyaraj and the music is by Ilaiyaraaja. It was remade in Hindi by Bhagyaraj as Aakhree Raasta (1986) with Amitabh Bachchan in the double role.
