Ajayan, an orphan who works odd jobs in a Kerala town, is close to an elderly woman who looks on him as her own child. When she is found murdered, the police, under pressure to close the case, pin the crime on him. Beaten into a confession and abandoned by nearly everyone, he finds an unlikely defender in Hanna, a young and inexperienced lawyer who believes the evidence does not add up. The film is a quietly angry courtroom drama about how the poor are crushed by the system, inspired by real cases of wrongful conviction. Actor-director Madhupal, whose debut Thalappavu was also about injustice, keeps the tone restrained. Nimisha Sajayan won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for this film together with Chola.
