Osthe Velan is a police inspector in a small Tamil town who fights like a hero, takes money like a crook, and keeps a running feud with his stepfather and half-brother at home. He falls for a potter's quiet daughter, but his methods earn him a dangerous enemy in Daniel, a hot-headed local politician who will stop at nothing to destroy him. Osthe is the Tamil remake of Salman Khan's 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, directed by S. Dharani of Dhill, Dhool and Ghilli fame. Sonu Sood reprises his villain role from the original, and Silambarasan plays Chulbul Pandey's Tamil counterpart with his own brand of attitude. S. Thaman's music and Santhanam's comedy track add to the masala mix, which follows the original's mix of slow-motion action, family drama and romance closely.
