Kichu needs money to start a new life abroad with the woman he loves, so he accepts a strange job: accompanying David, a quiet man who has lost much of his memory, on a journey from Mumbai to Mangalore and beyond. The people paying Kichu want David to recall something important, and as the trip continues, flashes of David's past suggest that he was once a dangerous figure in a powerful gang. Ottu was made simultaneously in Malayalam and Tamil, the Tamil version titled Rendagam, and marked Arvind Swamy's return to Malayalam cinema after about 25 years. Kunchacko Boban, moving away from his romantic image, plays the reluctant escort, and Jackie Shroff appears in a key role. The film is a slow-burn road thriller with stylish action.
