Paharganj (2019)

Paharganj, the crowded backpacker district near New Delhi railway station, gives this crime thriller both its title and its setting. Spanish actress Lorena Franco plays a woman who arrives in India to find her boyfriend, who has vanished, and whose search takes her through cheap hotels, drug dealers, corrupt men and the city's hidden economy, while separate local stories gradually connect with hers. The film is notable for casting a European lead in a Hindi film and for its street-level picture of a part of Delhi most Indian films ignore. It was a small independent release.
