Vikranth is a smooth, confident thief who keeps robbing the black money of a powerful and corrupt minister, staying always one step ahead of the police and the minister's men. Nobody can work out why a man of his background would take such risks, and the film reveals his reasons in a story about poverty, public money and the people who suffer when it is stolen. Pantham ("vow") was Gopichand's 25th film as a lead actor and the debut of writer K. Chakravarthy as director. It blends heist action with a social message about corruption. Mehreen Pirzada plays the heroine, and Gopi Sundar composed the music.
