Papa Kehte Hai (1996)

Papa Kehte Hai is a mid-1990s romantic family drama about the bond between a devoted father, played by Anupam Kher, and his daughter, played by Mayuri Kango in her debut lead role. When she falls for a young man played by former child star Jugal Hansraj, the closeness between father and daughter is put under strain, and the film explores loyalty, love and letting go. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, it is remembered above all for its music by Rajesh Roshan, especially Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, sung by Udit Narayan with Javed Akhtar's lyrics, which became one of the most loved love songs of the decade. The title itself is taken from the famous opening line of Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
