Pati Parmeshwar (1990)

Pati Parmeshwar ("husband is god") is a 1990 Hindi family drama directed by Madan Joshi, with Dimple Kapadia, Shekhar Suman and Sudha Chandran, the dancer famed for Nache Mayuri. Its title sums up its theme: a wife's absolute devotion to her husband, which is tested when his behaviour gives her every reason to rebel. The film is a melodrama of its time, built on sacrifice, tears and family values, and its idea of the ideal wife now looks very dated. Of interest to followers of Dimple Kapadia's comeback years.
