Dhuruvan, a forest officer from a tribal background, is assigned to train a group of college girls in the National Cadet Corps. His upbringing earns him the contempt of his superior, and the girls are hardly better, mocking his methods. During a training trek into the forest they discover a band of foreign mercenaries who plan to destroy an Indian satellite launch, and with no help coming in time, Dhuruvan and five of the girls have to stop them using the jungle itself. Peraanmai ("valour") was inspired by the Soviet war story The Dawns Here Are Quiet. Director S. P. Jananathan, known for socially minded films, wove in themes of caste, class and patriotism.
