Years of families preferring sons have left a village in Maharashtra with a severe shortage of girls, and its young men are desperate for brides. When the lively Rupali returns, she becomes the "poster girl" of the place, and a string of suitors, each more absurd than the last, compete for her attention, while she has her own ideas about what she wants and what the village needs to learn. Poshter Girl uses broad comedy, songs and colourful characters to make a pointed comment on female foeticide and the falling sex ratio. Sonalee Kulkarni, one of Marathi cinema's leading stars, carries the film with energy, backed by a strong comic ensemble.
