Shiv is a cheerful, flirtatious Indian banker in Budapest; Saira runs a chocolate shop and is haunted by strange dreams of drowning. From the moment they meet there is an intense connection between them, and when a mysterious, wealthy man enters Saira's life and claims her as his, the story reveals its roots in a past life in which the three were bound together by love and violence in a warrior society long ago. Raabta, meaning connection, was the directorial debut of producer Dinesh Vijan. It was shot largely in Budapest, and its elaborate period half features Rajkummar Rao in heavy prosthetics as a centuries-old man. Deepika Padukone appears in the title song. Before release, the makers of the Telugu hit Magadheera sued over similarities between the two films, which drew much attention.
