About Rádio Povídka

Rádio Povídka is a Czech spoken-word station built on a simple and rather lovely idea: the best short stories and novels, read aloud, running around the clock for nothing. It comes from Radia.cz in Prague, the portal that grew out of ABradio, and it is aimed squarely at people who want a book but cannot face one more page on a screen. The running order moves between adventure, history, detective work and comedy, so you might catch Jules Verne in one hour and Agatha Christie in the next. Karel Čapek, Ota Pavel, Arthur Conan Doyle and Alexandre Dumas all come round in rotation, and the station publishes its schedule so you can wait for a favourite rather than take pot luck. There is no music and no chatter, just a voice and a story, which makes it unusually good company on a commute or a long evening.
