Ayesha Mahajan, a teenage girl, is found murdered in her bedroom in her parents' Mumbai flat. The local police quickly arrest her father, a doctor, but the case is handed to Sunil Paraskar of the CBI, an unhurried, wry investigator who soon finds that the household's servants, the family's friends and the girl's own secrets all complicate the picture. Rahasya ("mystery") is a classic whodunit in which Kay Kay Menon's sardonic detective, a little in the manner of Columbo, is the main attraction, supported by Tisca Chopra and Ashish Vidyarthi as the parents. The story is widely seen as drawing on the real-life Aarushi Talwar murder case, and the film faced legal objections from the Talwar family before release. Writer-director Manish Gupta earlier wrote Sarkar.
