Raghu, blind since birth, is a gifted violinist who plays for film recordings and lives a proud, independent life. When Nancy, a lively young writer, comes to him for help with a story about a blind man, the two become friends and then fall in love, but her family has already arranged a marriage for her and will not accept him. Raja Paarvai was Kamal Haasan's 100th film and the first he produced himself, and it is remembered for the care with which he plays Raghu's blindness. Ilaiyaraaja's score, built around the violin, and the song "Andhi Mazhai" are classics, and pioneering producer-director L. V. Prasad has a warm role as Nancy's grandfather. The Telugu version is titled Amavasya Chandrudu.
