One by one, corrupt government officials are kidnapped, and the most corrupt among them are executed, leaving the police baffled and the public cheering. The man behind it all is Ramanaa, a respected college professor who, after a personal tragedy caused by corruption, built a disciplined anti-corruption force from his former students. As the police close in, his story is revealed, and the film builds to a confrontation over whether justice outside the law can ever be right. A. R. Murugadoss's second film, Ramanaa, gave Vijayakanth one of his defining roles and was a major hit. Its sequence in which a corpse is admitted to a private hospital to expose a fraudulent treatment racket is famous. It was remade in Telugu as Tagore and in Hindi as Gabbar Is Back.
