Born into a poor Brahmin family in Tamil Nadu, Srinivasa Ramanujan has almost no formal training but fills notebooks with startling formulas, failing college because he cares about nothing but mathematics. Struggling to support his young wife Janaki and under the eye of his devoted mother, he takes a clerk's job in Madras and writes to Cambridge mathematicians. One of them, G. H. Hardy, recognises his genius and brings him to England, where Ramanujan does extraordinary work while battling loneliness, a hostile climate, strict vegetarian habits and failing health. Gnana Rajasekaran, who earlier made biopics of Bharathi and Periyar, shot the film in Tamil and English. Lead actor Abhinay Vaddi is the grandson of the screen couple Gemini Ganesan and Savitri. This page is for the Tamil version.
