Ranganayaki is a teacher in a small town, happily engaged and with her life ahead of her, when she is assaulted. Instead of hiding what happened, as people around her urge, she decides to go to court, and the film follows the social pressure, the questions about her character and the long legal process that she must endure. Dayal Padmanabhan, who had made several small, issue-led Kannada films, made it as a courtroom drama about consent and the stigma faced by survivors. It was released with the subtitle Volume 1: Virginity, and Aditi Prabhudeva's performance in the title role was widely appreciated.
