It is 1943. Miss Julia, a fearless stunt-film star of Bombay, is the protégée and lover of Russi Billimoria, a former actor turned producer. She is sent to the Indo-Burmese border to perform for British Indian troops, escorted by Nawab Malik, a soldier of the Indian army. When the trip goes badly wrong in the jungle, Julia and Nawab are thrown together, love grows, and Julia discovers that Nawab is part of something much bigger, linked to the Indian National Army and the fight for independence. Rangoon is a lavish wartime romance with a retro look; Julia was inspired by the 1930s and 1940s stunt star Fearless Nadia. Vishal Bhardwaj composed the music, with lyrics by Gulzar, and much of it was shot in Arunachal Pradesh.
