Rikshavodu (1995)

A good-natured young man pulls a cycle-rickshaw in the city and is loved by the working people around him for his humour, courage and readiness to help. When a ruthless politician and his men begin to crush the poor, he stands up to them, and the conflict turns out to be tied to his own family's past. Chiranjeevi plays a double role, with Nagma and Soundarya as the heroines. Directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, a specialist in family and social dramas, Rikshavodu is a classic mid-1990s Chiranjeevi mass entertainer, mixing dances, fights, comedy and sentiment around a working-class hero. It was a high-profile release for the star, though it did not match the success of his biggest hits of the period.
