Set in a village in southern Tamil Nadu in the 1980s, Rummy follows two young men, played by Vijay Sethupathi and Inigo Prabhakaran, who become close friends while studying. Both fall in love, and both relationships run straight into the village's harsh code, enforced by a powerful family that will not tolerate its women choosing for themselves. The friends have to decide how far they will go for love and for each other. The film has a rustic period setting and songs by D. Imman, and it came out early in Vijay Sethupathi's rise, around the same time as Pannaiyarum Padminiyum. Aishwarya Rajesh, who later starred in Kaaka Muttai, plays one of the female leads.
