Adi Tomar was once a promising boxer, but federation politics wrecked his career and his temper has made him enemies ever since. Punished with a transfer to Chennai, he finds nothing worth coaching until he watches Madhi, a loud, fearless young woman who sells fish on the beach, throw a punch in a street brawl. Training her is a battle in itself: she is wilful, distrustful and caught up in rivalry with her own sister, and the officials who hate Adi are ready to use her against him. Saala Khadoos was shot simultaneously in Tamil as Irudhi Suttru. Ritika Singh, a real kickboxer making her acting debut, won a National Film Award special mention, and Madhavan built up a boxer's physique for the role. Rajkumar Hirani backed the film, and the women's boxing scenes were praised for their authenticity.
