When students at a medical college in the hills start dying in strange circumstances, the management calls in an investigator who studies the paranormal not with charms but with sound recordings, believing that the dead leave traces in noise. His equipment picks up something in the campus that should not be there, and his inquiries lead him into the college library, to a reserved lecturer and to a decades-old story nobody wants to talk about. Sabdham ("sound") reunites Aadhi Pinisetty with director Arivazhagan, whose Eeram (2009) was a well-liked water-themed ghost story, and it builds its scares around sound design rather than gore. Simran and Laila appear in important roles.
